WATER MAIN BREAK AT UTICA ZOO

And-a water problem at e utica zoo, gives people free admission this weekend!

Good evening-- i'm callihan marshall ank you for joining us tonight.

A portion of the utica zoo was closed today after a water main break yesterday afternoon.

According to zoo officials, the children's area flooded, forcing that section to close.

News channel 2's brent kearney went to the zoo today, he joins us live in the studio brent.

Good evening callihan, the good news is that the utica zoo remained open and offered free admission today and will tomorrow as well because of the water main break.

Zoo officials tell me that the break happened yesterday at about 3:30 in the afternoon.

The mohawk valley water authority was called to the scene and had to dig down about 12 feet to get to the broken pipe.

All of the mals in that area were safely removed, the wateauthori tells me that because the pipe is a private water line it will be up to the zoo to fix.

The water authority says an electrical line that was placed above thbroken pis still going to be a great day, there's still rehappy th they werstill able tn open "so ther" still plenty to do here at the zoo.

Unfortunley thechildre blocked off from visitors today.

But its still going to be a great day, there's still snowshoeing oppurtunities and a ton of fun things to do at the zoo."

"we dont really have a timeline yet on when we are going to be opening it back up.

Zoo officials say that contractors are expected to be at the zoo making repairs tomorrow.

And again free admission will continue tomorrow as well.
