Burton Kelso technology expert joins us to talk about how we can monitor and protect our children while they are on their gaming devices.

Coming our way.

Talk about that in just a few minutes.

Jodie.

Thank you, mike.

>> it's a question many parents deal with how much screen time for your children.

More about how to create healthy digital habits for our family.

>> i'm good, how are you doing?

It's timely because national day of unplugging is next weekend.

It's encouraging adults and kids to unplug.

>> hopefully the weather is night.

What is advise you have.

All of us struggle with that.

How much time do you give them?

How do you monitor it?

>> what are your tips?

For apps and video games you should probably give your kids two hours a day.

Four on the weekends but less is better because technology is addicting and that's the whole purpose of it.

To keep adults and kids addicted to the smart devices.

There's apps we can use.

We talked about this off camera because i needed advice.

One is the switch app.

>> so a lot of parents don't realize after the nintendo switch, there's an app you can download on your smartphone device and kill the switch.

If kids are playing too much, you can set limits and what games they play on their switch.

>> exactly, you just open it up and set your settings up.

Another one you can do is if it's connected to your apple device, does it have to be connected?

>> no, it's the app built into your smartphone.

So if you have an iphone or ipad, you can use the apple screen time app to check out your screen time and monitor your kid's screen time as well.

You can grab their device and it sounds like what you can do is set their time limit and set a code.

>> right.

And they don't know your code.

>> that's right.

>> and you set it to go off wherever.

>> exactly.

It works great.

>> we checked the disney circle.

This is very handy.

Is that something you recommend?

>> definitely, it's an all inclusive device and gives you control over every device, you don't have to have a single app to control each device in the home.

>> the great thing about that, you can push the pause button and here comes the teenager and wonders, how did that turn off?

And then i unpause.

It's kind of fun.

>> right.

Two more real quick.

Microsoft has an app that controls android and x boxes and the play station has its own app.

If you have kids on the ps4, you can have the app that shuts it down.

You have the iphone and the switch and this and that.

You hope you can stick is altogether.

Some you can.

Like the x box has to be a little separate sometimes.

>> it does.

It makes it a little more challenging.

I'm glad you're here to take us through >> my pleasure.
