"bad people do bad things and the police have to respond."

That response ended in gun fire on the campus of the tupelo children's mansion early saturday morning.

"the more the story unfolded and we realized we we're not under attack the better we felt about it."

Steven judd owner of the tupelo children's mansion was out of town when he received the call of a heavy police presence near the campus..

A police chase that started in union county ended when tupelo police assisted union country law enforcement to stop the suspect on hillside dr. tupelo police captian chuck mcdougal says that's when the suspect ran on foot entering the campus of the children's mansion... just minutes after the children returned home from a youth church service... "people were safe but we did have some children that did witness the incident from a vehicle."

Fortunately... mansion employees assisted police in finding the armed suspect in efforts to keep the children out of harms way..

"a blessing the staff members actually saw the gunman hiding between a couple building and while he was on 911 he helped guide the police."

The suspect shot at police before he was shot twice by officers...he was transported to north mississippi medical center..

Also in lee county... a nettleton woman is recovering in the hospital
