Philippines authorities seize smuggled meat from African swine fever 'red area'

National Veterinary Quarantine Services seized tons of smuggled meat from an African swine fever "red area" on Tuesday (March 3) at Port of Matnog in Sorsogon.

According to local reports, some labels on the products indicate that the meat arrived from China and Korea.

In early February the Philippines detected their first African swine fever outbreak.

The disease is highly contagious and has no cure or vaccine, but poses no direct health threat to humans.
