Hit and run victim speaks for the first time after incident
Joseph Jackcky talks about his road to recovery after being struck by a car.

Good evening ... i'm hunter petroviak.thanks for joining us.we have an update tonight on a story we first reported back in february.

A victim of a hit and run is doing better tonight.

In fact he took his first steps since the accident ?today?.fox 55's jentill neal talked to the victim and his father about his journey to recovery.

Jentill hunter, i was able to talk to joseph jackcky for the first time, and although police say they know who hit him, he and his father wonder why the driver's not been charged.

That february night is a little blurry for joseph jackcky, but after waking up in the hospital, he knew it was bad.<joseph > 23:27:30-23:27:39"when they told me the following morning, they filled me in on the details of what happened and that's when i learned i was hit by a car."

Jackacky was walking on st.

Joe and parksdale last month when a car hit him and drove away.

He hasn't walked since -- until today - after hours of rehabilitation at parkview randalia.if it hadn't been for a young woman who stopped to help him that night he might not have survived at all.

Now he's trying to return to how things were.

23:29:31-23:29:55 "with the injuries i sustained, i hope that i can recoop back to a functional life that i had prior to this incident and that the investigation concludes and we see an arrest- prosecution in the case is my two hopes.

My main hope is that i fully recover."

When it first happened jacacky says police told them they had no leads.

But when they received ?this?

Crash report they learned officers identified the driver ?that night?

When she returned to the scene.

The driver has not been charged.

Jackcky and his father want to know why.

> 23:40:08-23:40:24"they are aware of that and did not proceed to cite that person, arrest that person, i mean come on, where is that acceptable?"

Now jackcky and his family want answers along with his recovery.<ron 23:34:19-23:35:01"it's been pretty tough because of the extent of his injuries.

He was unable to get up on his own and move on his own.

It's a slow process to regain those functions after being hit that hard.

Hopefully the bone injuries and the breaks heal."

They ask anyone with information about that night that could help the investigation to send it to police investigation.we reached out to police to ask why no one has been charged and we're still waiting on a response.reporting live jentill neal... fox 55 news.
