Local distilleries transition from spirits to sanitizer

A couple of craft distilleries in Northern California and Southern Oregon are making the switch to producing hand sanitizer during the coronavirus pandemic.

T of people.

Denny bar co.

Is a distillery in etna, california.

It's converted the equipment that normally makes alcohol to make ethanol.

So now, instead of whiskey, they're making hand sanitizer.

The owner's say it's been a bit of trial and error.

They say it's worth it to support their community.

It made sense to try to keep everybody busy and keep them employed, so that's one part, i guess, of definitely our reasoning to want to do this is obviously to keep our employees employed.

And the other part obviously is just being good samaritans and making sure that we're taking care of our community that's supported us so well over the years."

Already ran out of its first batch.

The distillery is hoping to get up to making 75 gallons of hand sanitizer a day.

So far, they've been giving it away to the community.

Interested.
