Horse farms offer 'peaceful' online tours

At this time of year, they usually are the centerpiece of iconic vistas and weekend drives…horses roaming across green pastures, people lazily watching from the roadside, even getting an up-close-and personal visit at some of the region’s majestic horse farms.

The many horse farms in kentucky c1 3 make the best out of a difficult time.

The farm has started hosting virtual tours.

Abc 36's alex king has more on what the farm sees as a new opportunity.

Alex: "the horse capital of the world typically associates springtime with... horses but right now because of the coronavirus pandemic you can't visit your favorite places... that's why mill ridge farm and other horse farms are providing virtual tours for those who might be interested in watching."

Social media is becoming a big part of how businesses will continue to support one another and allow the community to join in.

Price bell is with mill ridge farm and he says the non- profit visit horse country started about six years ago to make it easier for farms to give tours.

He says the purpose was originally to bring people to the farms but right now because that's not a possibility they thought of doing it live on social media.

Price: "if we can find a 30 or 45 minute escape for people and now on facebook live it's engaging so people ask questions and we do our best to answer them on the fly and really just, we're all trying to pass the time safely."

Mill ridge farm has a variety of horses... bell say's during the tours they'll walk around and feed them and give some history about the farm.

He says the way they're being impacted at the farm is... preventing clients from coming in... typically this is a very busy time.

One thing they were prepared for... price: "we do feel lucky that we as a farm, as raising horses you're very aware of diseases and viruses already because you're running your own kind of neonatal clinic on your farm and your foaling barn and so your already very aware and sensitive to bio-securities."

There are multiple farms that are getting involved with free virtual tours on social media... you can visit our website wtvq.com for more information or bell say's you can head to visit horse country.com.

Alex: "he say's they hope they can provide peace during a very stressful time.
