As individuals adhear to social distancing mandates, one vurneral population may be at an increased risk of isolation.

News1's rain augustine spoke to professionals on how to maintian healthy social connections with seniors during this time social distancing may help to protect older people in the coronavirus pandemic, but it may also expose seniors to another challenge, which is loneliness.

"making sure our residents are protected and safe, and just educating them that everything w're doing is for them to keep them safe."

As current mandates limit visitors to nursing and assitant living homes, coordinator at southwind healthcare facility, angelique credeur says, i's important that seniors stay connected with loved ones."w're using social media avenues as well as facetime, sending them random pictures throughout the day so that they can see they are still smiling and happy."

Terrly leleux, says although the corona virus has limited in person visits, she still finds ways to connect to her family.

"with the virus going on, they ca't come.

But they talk to me on the phone."

For vulnerable populations like the elderly, staying mentally stilulated is an essential part of coping.

Creuder says her staff is doing thier part to keep seniors active."w've increased the amount of activities that w're doing in their rooms with them."

Credeur says employe's are also taking nessacry precautions to keep patients safe "we an employee enters out building,their temperatures are checked, they have to answer a questionaire to ensure thatthey have't been in contact, they have't been running a temperature, things of that nature."
