Christopher Banks joins us to talk about how parents can help their autistic child with their home schooling.

Weekend looks good and the first part of next week.

Jodie.

>> per parents and caregivers, this time is more stressful than relaxing.

We aren't their hero teachers they are usually used to learning from.

April is national autism month.

We thought visiting with the president and the c.e.o.

Of the autism society, mr. christopher banks would be appropriate.

Welcome mr. banks.

>> thank you for having me.

>> thank you for being here.

What are your concerns for those with autism during this pandemic?

>> there are so many.

We have many concerns for individuals with autism as well as their families.

As we're dealing with covid-19 be more stressful than relaxing.

Not only are we taking our kids off a schedule, but we aren't their hero teachers they usually learn from....april is national autism c1 with the president and ceo of the autism society banks.

1.what are your concerns for pandemic?2.tell us about your c1 covid19 toolkit and your facebook live sessions.

3.it's also autism awareness routines?

Time?

4.what is your helpline and can parents use that?>> c1 to the therapy and services when they aren't able to go to?

The increased use of telehealth and making sure the service providers are available.

Including also in that is the concern for parents.

You know as you just look about, bank tellers became school teachers.

People who don't necessarily have the training in the educational things plus put on top the anxiety and the stress and the concerns that families have about the uncertainty of covid-19.

So we see all of that coming together.

And i think the other concern i have is that in the great services and programs the federal are seeing that the local officials are providing.

Do not lose sight who have the greatest need.

Very concerned we not forget about them.

What am i talking about?

The children receiving special education programs. they not be forgotten about during this process.

Those are the things the autism society of america are most concerned about when it comes to the individual.

We are concerned about the affiliates.

We have 80 across the country.

We're the largest national autism organization in the united states that has 650,000 lives that we touch.

How do we make sure those facilities stay in business and active because now more than ever our communities need them.

Many of them work on very, very tight margins.

Those are concerns for me as well.

>> wonderful.

I have time for one last quick question.

Tell us about your covid-19 tool kit and your facebook live sessions real quick.

>> so, thank you for asking about that.

Part of the covid-19 tool kit is something that is getting recognized across the country and being utilized in the national basketball association.

Nba has used it.

Universities and colleges are if they come, a compilation of great tools and resources to help parents and school teachers.

That's the professionals on the spectrum as well as individuals affected by autism.

We are doing a facebook live series where i interview somebody, a self advocate or industry expert to try and help everybody be cope with and survive and thrive through this whole experience especially as we celebrate our differences.

As we try to ignite change and be part of the solution for how to deal with this.

>> mr. banks.

C.e.o.

And president of the autism society.

Thanks for being with us.
