Plasma donations needed to combat coronavirus

Patients who have fully recovered from the coronavirus can donate plasma to help other people fight the virus.

Wayne hereford spoke with the donor recruitment supervisor at vitalant today and joins us live outside the facility with the good news about the donations.

Melinda murphree is a supervisor here at vitalant.

I met her outside the facility in order to keep safe.

She told me that right now vitalant is asking people who have fully recovered from the coronavirus for plasma donations.

She says convalescent plasma helps people with covid-19 recover faster.

She would not get into specific numbers but she says they have had success drawing plasma here locally.

" yes we've had success withdrawing the plasma and helping other people.

That's what our goal is here."

Vitalant donor recruitment supervisors now murphre says that vitalant could always use regular blood donations as well as plasma from those who have recovered from covid -19.
