They say this is because people are nervous about coming into the emergency room because of COVID-19

New on daybreak new for you on daybreak?

Even though, a lot of attention is on covi?19, doctors say that's no excuse to*not go to the e.r.

If you're having a health emergency.

Kimt news 3's madelyne watkins joins us live this morning from mayo clinic where she spoke to a trauma doctor about this.

Madelyne./// brooke and tyler.

Doctors here at mayo clinic tell me they're seeing patients dying at home because they're not coming in to the emergency room when they need to seek care.

Doctor casey clements tells me they're seeing preventible illnesses lead to long term problems or even death because the patients didn't come in.

People are under the impression that they're at risk of getting sick if they come to the emergency room.

But he says there's a number of measures in place to make sure that doesn't happen?

Everyone is isolated as soon as they walk through the door.

Doctor clements stresses how crucial it is that if you need to see a doctor, you come to the emergency "people who need care, need care.

And that's not just related to covid.

We've been on the phone with patients at home having heart attacks and having strokes and pleading with them to try to get them to come in for care.

That's happened?

That's not a guess that's a true thing."

Doctor clements tells me if you come to the emergency room, you 100 percent will have access to the care you need.

He says mayo clinic is lucky enough to not have a shortage of personal protective equipment supplies right now.

Live in rochester.

Madelyne watkins kimt thank you madelyne.

Doctor clements also wants to reassure you that the emergency room isn't filled with covi?19 patients.
