Vehicle Crashes Into Mayo Civic Center

People are still able to get the help they need during the pandemic.

Following a crash at the mayo civic center... the very building housing services to the homeless during this pandemic.

Take a look at what happened just before 5:00 this morning.

A woman admitted to smoking meth and then drove her van through the front door.

She also hit a police car.

The action ended with her arrest.

Such as the rochester public library?

Where members of the rochester homeless community once spent a lot of their time are closed because of the pandemic.

Now?

They're spending time at the civic center?

Where the crash happened this morning.

The good news out of all of thi?is police believe what happened is isolated and essentially it's business as usual at a place where people need help.

To give people a safe place to be?

The rochester community warming center relocated to the mayo civic center about a month ago.

Several organizations?

The city and county teamed up to coordinate a day program there as well.

Because the civic center is so large?

People can be spaced out and practice social distancing.

The library is a part of the day center partnership... it says the programs are going well.

Visitors to the day center and warming center are so appreciative of having this space available.

I was just in there yesterday and there were just so many words of gratitude the day center is from 8 am to 8 pm?

And the warming center is from 8 pm to 8 am.

Visitors have access to running water and wifi.
