Anywhere Learning TV brings lessons to Medford students via television during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alicia: can you walk me through the process that it takes every day to get anywhere learning tv, up and running, and on air?

Ben : absolutely.

So we get in every morning around 8:00 am and we have two hours to prepare for the first teacher that's going to come in at 10:00 am to film their lesson plan.

And so what that involves is resetting our studio.

Or maybe both studios cause we have two studios and um, you know, getting things like the blocking ride, framing up, the camera's just right.

Uh, based upon the lesson plan.

The teacher sent us the night before and then it's a marathon throughout the rest of the day.

We have teachers every two hours that we're filming in one or both studios.

Alicia: ivan, what made you decide to jump in and do this?

Ivan : uh, i was really hoping for a chance to be able to help students that, um.

Uh, don't have the advantage of having internet connectivity at home.

So the idea of being able to provide a resource for students that just have that access to the television, um, it seemed like a wonderful opportunity.

Alicia: shifting gears the way both of you have, has presented some challenges, i'm sure.

What were some of those challenges that you feel like you've overcome?

Ivan: the biggest challenge for me through this project has been the fact that we don't get to see our students anymore.

We don't get to have that daily check in with them and see how they're doing.

Um, we lose that, uh, socialization and connection piece.

Alicia: why is something like this so important?

This is a lot of work that you guys are putting in.

Is it worth it.

Ben: it's absolutely worth it because as i've been mentioned earlier, there are students that don't have any internet access at home.

Um, there are also students that don't have access to broadcast television at home.

And so another amazing aspect to this project is that we can actually.

Take those videos, put them on a thumb drive and send them home to students and families because all students in the medford school district, um, have access or are getting access to chromebooks and they can view these episodes on those chromebooks.
