The City of Oxford is taking steps to make sure people wear masks at businesses.

Is now on the lookout for people who aren't following the guidelines put in place to fight the coronavirus... businesses have begun to open back up today with restrictions... wtvas evan hensley joins us live with what police are looking out for... oxford police began this past weekend making sure that everyone working in local businesses is wearing a mask... the board of alderman and mayor robin tannehill announced yesterday that it will now be a requirement for everyone to wear a mask at local businesses... this includes all workers and customers... this was put in place alongside businesses reopening today to make sure the spead of coronavirus slows despite opening businesses..

This is not a state-wide requirement but mayor robin tannehill says it is a necessity to keep people safe... the mayor told me today that officers have already been to businesses to let them know about the policy... importance."

"our opd officers have gone to all of the required places this past weekend who have started to require masks on saturday.

We have had to give a few warnings but i feel like people udnerstand the importance."

They have not issued an citations but can if they see fit... this is is just the city of oxford... lafayette county is not requiring businesses to do so... reporting live in oxford eh wtva 9 news
