Lessons for our Healthcare system
Learning from the pandemic

Pandemic.

Coronavirus the ongoing pandemic has revealed flaws in the way our nation handles healthcare.

George has been talking to dr. brian mcdonough about that.

George?

And kati?

That flaw has been revealed because of what hospitals are no longer doing.

As hospitals forego outpatient procedures, elective surgeries and many medical test?

Some are facing dire financial straits.

That's because such tests and procedures are where the money is.

Taking care of really sick patients is not.

The way we pay for healthcare in general it's kinda backwards, like hospitals and doctors don't much money for seeing the sickest people in the hospital relative to the other types of payments, so, if you really think about it, the money should be paid there, cause what we're seeing now is, even in new york, it's all these people being taken care of and hospitals are losing their shirts because the way the model has been built is they make money by ordering expensive tests.

They make money by out patient procedures by dramatic surgeries.

Dr. mcdonough is hopeful that some of the flaws revealed by the coronavirus pandemic will be addressed going forward.

After all, nobody is going to argue that taking care of a critically ill patient should create revenue... just as doing a face lift or thanks, george.

We're going to hear more of dr. mcdonough's observations about our healthcare industry tonight on kimt news three at ten.
