Tupelo Public School District is making plans for students to return back to campuses this fall

In-class teaching ended early.

Wtvas chelsea brown spoke with tupelo public school distict superintendent about if the class of 2021 will return to campuses for the fall semester.

Tupelo public school distict includes 13 schools, the largest school is tupelo high school.

This years graduating class was 481 students, the largest in the schools history.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic those students had to miss out of monumental moments, like senior prom or walking across the stage and receiving their diplomas.

Of course everything depends on the pandemic" tupelo public school district will also continue to provide distance learning courses for parents who feel it is best to maintain homeschooling.

The school district is preparing for both ways of teaching as well as the possibilities of more school closures in the upcoming year.

I asked picou what kind of precautions the school is planning..

"2000 high school students at tupelo high school that's gonna be a challenge but we are going to teach the students about social distancing" the school district sent out surveys to the students parents asking how they felt about the upcoming semester and if they felt like it was safe for students to return.

Plexiglas barriers, hand washing, frequent sanitation, and temperature checks will all be new normals for the school district.

"we have 4 months to get this right and rethink just about everything we do in the school system."

Tupelo public school district is hiring 6 new nurses so that every school can have a nurse full time at school.

Superindent picou says he is still awaiting guidance with sports and if they will be able to pick back up in the fall.
