IA takes swift action to protect vulnerable populations

A Strike Team will be in North Iowa for two days swabbing nursing home employees in an effort to find asymptomatic carriers of the virus.

Supply.

It's a local?

State?

And federal pandemic priority... keeping vunerable populations including those in nursing homes?

Safe.

More than half of the coronavirus deaths in iowa came from lon?term care facilities... and an even bigger portion in minnesota... 81 percent.

Kimt news 3's nick kruszalnicki joins us live now with how a covi?19 strike team will be taking swift action?

Nick?

Xxxs george and katie?

The team will work here at the north iowa events center in mason city.

They'll be here for two days swabbing nursing home employees in an effort to find asymptomatic carriers of the virus.

Earlier today, i spoke with ian stockberger.

He's the ??o of good shepherd health center in mason city.

Stockberger says his employees have six different times throughout the day when they can come down here and get tested.

He is urging the workers to get it done, but it is not mandatory.

While he supports the massive testing efforts underway, stockberger reminds us?

Even after a test is negative, it is only a snapshot in time and i think that's what people need to remember though.

Someone could give a negative sample out there and then on the way home stop at the gas station and interact with somebody and that totally changes everything.

Those tests will be processed at the state labs.

It will take around 48 hours to get results.

Stockberger says no covi?

19 cases have been found among staff or residents.

Live in mason city, nick kruszalnicki, kimt news 3.

Thank you nick.

Multiplce state agencies are taking part in this strike team mission.

Among them, the iowa national guard.
