First case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.

It has been linked to children who have tested positive for covid-19.

The syndrome, known as mis-c, is inflammatory and similar to what's known as kawasaki syndrome.

Symptoms include a persistant fever, a rash across the body, a red tongue, a sore throat and swelling in the hands and feet.

Franciscan health pediatrician doctor timothy snyder says it's rare and they're still learning about why certain children are having this reaction to covid-19.

"very few children are severely affected by this and we don't know why that is and then we don't know why this subset of children are getting this more severe complication."

The syndrome is not contagious from child to child.

However covid-19 is.

That's why it's important for kids to practice the guidelines laid out by the cdc to stop the spread of covid-19.
