Tonight -- protestors and law enforcement addressing race issues in fort wayne together.

Good evening i'm hunter petroviak.

Hundreds gathering on south clinton in downtown fort wayne for a 'unity march'.

Protesters hoping this can be the starting point for changes in law enforcement.

Fox 55's chris mullooly and jentill neal were at the march and join us live in downtown fort wayne.

We start with chris.... what was the feeling from those you talked to about how this can help?hunter... they say its a step in the right direction.a lot of the protesters were mad... and still frustrated at the actions taken by fort wayne police over the weekend...and hope their words are not hollow... but follow through.

?nats?a walk for unity....?nats?protestors joined by the mayor..

City councilmembers... and police... starting on south clinton... working their way to the martin luther king junior bridge.can't we all get along this is 2020 and we're still not getting alongjohn doritch hoping for a peaceful protest..

And positive programs placed for people of color.more training and citizens advisory board that maybe every othe rmonth or monthly that are meeting with ppl in police deptthe march was set up by some protest organizers to create a dialogue and relationship with police.together with the communty as one instead of at war with our own government fort wayne police chief steve reed saying the answer starts through the march.the city needs to come together because we're strong together thats why we're out here lets work on some thingsthe march ended with speaches from the mayor... that situation will never happen in city of fort wayne and protestor leadersour voices are heard we're gonna reform we're gonna have new laws we're gonna have training, that's what we're here forlooking for change... advocating for black people..

Continuing to spread their message.and from here on out... making sure police are held accountable.?nats- "follow through, follow through, follow through " you can see here a list of demands circulated through the protest....groups are demanding a public assessment of the police department use of force policy....reforming hiring and retention practices for overly aggressive officers... institute citizien based anti racism training and requiring body cameras to be actively recording for all who are duty.for future protests... many plan on being here tomorrow... saying their job isn't done.reporting live ... chris mullooly... fox 55 news.
