A man was arrested and another detained in connection with a pregnant elephant's killing in Kerala's Palakkad.

The accused were held by joint investigation teams of police and forest departments.

Identified as P Wilson, the arrested man works with an estate that cultivates cash crops and spices.

The accused reportedly said they set up a snare of fruit filled with crackers to scare wild boars.

State's forest minister K Raju said there will be more arrests by evening.

The elephant killing incident came to light on May 27 when forest officer Mohan Krishnan wrote a Facebook post after witnessing the death.

The elephant rushed to nearby Velliyar river after eating the fruit and died there.

The crackers exploded when the elephant chomped on the pineapple.
