Georgia Election
Today's election in Georgia saw a surprising turnout and plenty of challenges.

Any information.

It's election day in georgia.

People are voting on a number of things including new federal, state, and local leaders.

Out of concern over the coronavirus pandemic, the secretary of state sent residents mail-in ballots.

News 12's dorothy sherman joins us now live.

And dorothy, are a lot of people actually showing up to vote in person today?

Emily, i'm at one of the largest precincts in walker county.

It's in flintstone, and yes, people are voting in person.

That's despite the mail in ballot requests.

The secretary of state had mailed to residents a letter asking if they would like to be sent a mail in ballot.

So you could request one.

In walker county, around 9,000 people requested mail in ballots.

The county has received around 6,000 of those ballots.

What may have slowed things down today at the polls are folks who requested a mail in ballot but chose to vote in person today.

Poll workers have to make sure they have not voted and that person has to sign and affidavit before they can vote in person.

Though it's a process they still want people to come out and vote and that people are doing.

Live in walker county, dorothy sherman, news 12 now.
