Boucher is close to signing a 1-year deal with avangard omsk in the kontinental hockey league.

This is a huge loss for the comets as boucher has been arguably the team's best player over the past three years - leading the team in scoring in each.

He was also named the comets team m- v-p for the third year in a row and he was an a-h-l all-star first team selection this past season.

The michigan native set comets single- season records in goals and points - and is the comets all-time leader in goals with 90.

He also is tied for the franchises all-time points record with 175.

Comets broadcaster joe roberts had a front row seat to watch boucher play the last couple of year.

We got his thoughts on the all-star following the reports.

Joe roberts: from what i've seen in the last two years and what i hope to see in the future is more of the absolute top level of hockey in the american hockey league and i still will say without disrespect to gerry mayhew in iowa i think reid boucher was the most valuable player for the league in this season i don't think it's up for debate.

I just think without question the value he had for the comments, i don't see how another player is more valuable to their specific team.

I would say that without it being hyperbole i think he is the greatest player that's ever been a utica comment.

I hope we have a lot more of him to see but ultimately he is in a contract year that is undeniable , he is going to make a decision based on opportunities that present themselves and his young family.

Whatever that may be whether it is in utica frankly i hope it is in vancouver up with the big club but whatever his future holds it has been an absolute joy to watch him play and i hope i get to see more.

Again - very important to stress that nothing is official just yet with boucher.

We will provide any updates if and when they come about.
