A home suffered around $40,000 in damage due to a late-night fire on the 4th of July.

Throwing them a rochester family is left picking up the pieces after a fire nearly destoyed their home saturday night.

Kimt news three's maleeha kamal shows us how neighbors lent a helping hand.xxx look live: i'm in the 1400 block of 7th street northeast and right behind me is the scene where a house fire broke out.

I spoke to the homeowner who tells me the last 24 hours have been emotional for him.

Home owner: "our kids were born there.

Just give me a sec.

This is harder to talk about then i thought."

That's the voice of skip pickett.

He says his family was asleep when the fire broke out.

Luckily ?

"* they were able to get out uninjured.

Their next door neighbors noticed the flames and played a big role.

Sot homeowner: "our neighbor her bedroom is real close and she saw the orange blaze and so she jumped into action called 911 and grabbed a garden hose to out out the flames."

Rochester firefighter chad kuhlman was not on the scene but has details about how the crew battled the blaze.

"so they started from the outside just to make it more safer for anyone for anyone on the inside and they were able to finish distinguishing the fire from the inside."

Kuhlman says the garage suffered heavy fire damage while the home sustained limited smoke damage.

Pickett says everything can be replaced.

As he reflects on the devastating event ?

"* he says he's thankful for everyone who has rallied around his family.
