The value of life

We're just over a week away from the execution of dustin honken.

He's convinvted of killing 5 people in iowa, including two children.

Iowa catholic bishops have written a letter encouraing president trump to change his sentence to life behind bars.

Live kimt news 3's alex jirgens joins us live with more details.

Alex?xxx george and katie ?

"* honken's execution is still set for july 17th at an indiana prison.

But a group of all 4 iowa catholic bishops sent a letter to president trump asking him to change honken's sentence.

Dubuque archbishop michael jackels ?

"* as well as bishops in des moines ?

"* davenport and sioux city ?

"* sent the letter to the president on july 1st.

The bishops are asking for clemency for honken ?

"* as well as those who are set to be executed this summer ?

"* to lie without parole ?

"* and believe that defending the common good would still be accomplished by commuting the sentence.

The bishops feel the death penalty contributes to a growing disrespect for the sacredness of all human life ?

"* and perpetuates a cycle of violence.xxx "even with this service of justice, does this define us as a society where we enact a lethal means inflicted on one of our citizens?

I think both from a public common intuition, and also from a religious sensibility, there are things here that make this something objectable."

Honken's execution is part of the justice department's plan to resume federal executions for the first time in more than 15 years.

Live in mason thank you alex.
