Chinese ‘bamboo drifter’ performs ballet

A Chinese ‘bamboo drifter’ performs elegant ballet moves on a river’s surface.

The traditional ‘river dance’ features dancer Yang Liu from the city of Zunyi in China’s southern province of Guizhou and the footage was widely shared on the social network TikTok.

Yang performs her dance routines while standing on a single bamboo pole on the water’s surface.

Using another pole for balance and to move along the river, the elegant dancer performs ballet on the floating bamboo pole.

Single bamboo drifting, also known as ‘Zhanmu’, dates back over 600 years and was first used by locals to transport logs.
