Garcia has the story.

Last week, two evsc student athletes tested positive for covid-19, which has prompted schools and athletic directors to ramp up their protection of athletes as the fall season gets set to begin.

Everybody's just really following all the protocols with social distancing and wearing a mask and if there is a chance that someone might have been in contact with covid, making sure that they stay away and don't come around therefore it doesn't spread to anybody else on the team.

We've got a list of some rules handed down from the ihsaa and regulations to follow, to try to keep them as safe as possible and we've added a few of our own in addition to what the ihsaa has told us.

And if a student athlete does test positive, schools have put procedures in place to handle it and keep others safe.

If they either test positive or even have any of the symptoms they have to report that to the coach.

We're fortunate we have a really good health department here in vanderburgh county that works with us and they've been in constant contact with us on helping us with protocol as far as reporting these or even helping us with what to do if we think we have someone that's positive for covid.

For sports like football, siac schools will have just over two weeks to add or finalize any new safety measures with the season set to kick off august 21st.
