This morning, local school districts are working to find the computers students need to start the school year.

We've also confirmed that 38,000 laptops ordered from china never even made it to the united states.

School superintendent s of alabama executive director ryan hollingsworth says about 20 school districts in our state are impacted, but couldn't tell us which ones.

He added that schools are now faced with a 6-8 week delay as they work to find a new supplier.

"we also have districts that have ordered chromebooks, other devices that are not being delivered on time, as well.

So when you combine that with the 38 thousand, you're looking at a large number of devices that school districts were anticipating to have in place for when students return."

The etowah county schools superintendent was the first to report the issue and was originally told the laptops were stuck in customs. athens city schools says they're now being told the devices they ordered in june are on back order due to an increase in demand.
