This morning, one big question we hear from parents: how will school districts decide if they should close again because of coronavirus?

Waay31s sierra phillips is live with what school districts in madison county school say they plan to do once students return.

The state department of education and public health both issued guidance saying right now the decision to shut down schools is up to each individual school district.

Here at huntsville city schools, the district says they'll use data from the department of public health and handle each case individually.

The madison county school district plans to evaluate the staff and students impacted by the cases and how many are in quarantine or positive- but said the decision will also be made on a case by case basis.

They also said they'll use state and federal health guidelines and a variety of factors like the number of cases in a classroom, community spread and social distancing practices we reached out to local leaders like huntsville hospital c-e-o david spillers and madison mayor paul finley.

Both said it's a decision they believe only the school districts will know how to make.
