BILL SHANKS SPEAKS WITH PERRY HIGH SCHOOL HEAD FOOTBALL COACH KEVIN SMITH ABOUT HIS UPCOMING SEASON.

C1 3 b13 music.

Now your 41nbc accuweather forecast.

Intro stormcast kevin smith is in his fourth year as the head coach of the perry panthers panthers coming off the seven and five year, last season three straight, non losing seasons for the panthers.

And that's significant because before coach smith took over, they had had to run a four straight losing seasons.

And you're a coach.

And you look at your roster here.

You look like the perfect scenario for a coach who isn't his fourth year, who has had time to build that program up.

And you've got to feel comfortable with your, where your program is right now.

I would imagine.

Oh yes, sir.

Absolutely.

Our program is a rattle schedule.

If there's a schedule, i feel like that we built every year.

We built on the senior classes later, our team that we felt built on and we are progressing, uh, in a, in a great matter.

I think that, um, you know, uh, with our senior group coming back this year and the starters that we have coming back this year is going to give us more, uh, experience because, uh, the previous years before that way, it played a lot of seniors.

So this past year we play a few, quite a few underclassmen that was doing blank, some vital experience back to our program for this year.

That's good.

And no doubt.

And the defense, let's talk about the defense now.

Uh, your dick explained, well, last year, 20 points for a game allowed and six starters back, you lost a modeling and d'amico a couple of big players for you, but you got strength up front there, kendra johnson, and ryan's on that defensive line.

How important will that be for your defense app?

I mean, they always say it starts up prom coach.

Oh yeah, absolutely.

And may ban an old line coach d line coach for so many years.

That's where the games won and lost.

And, uh, i think we will be as good up front this year as we've been in, since i've been at the helm of the program, uh, uh, kendrick and, uh, and range will anchor down our inside and there to, uh, oh, i want to say old school defensive lineman that when the ball snap, you better have it strapped up pretty tight.

Uh, trent johnson blames this, a value of experience that defensive and, uh, because of his, uh, i experienced that even as a sophomore, as a edge rusher, uh, they disciplined football players and later for our defensive line up front.

That's good.

No doubt about that habits right there.

I had a lot of experience back on the offense as well for the skill players and a pretty special offensive lineman.

We'll talk about that with coach smith in our next report, it's a side of covid-19 ... we're just beginning to learn more about... those impacted for the *long haul*.

While many point to the overall high survival rates in younger people... one survivor from texas says ... those numbers are not telling the full story ... about what it's like... to battle this virus.

Devin scillian reports.
