>> get on your running shoes, it's time to support the arc of sc in this year's 5k.

And we're joined by megan, the director, and things are a little bit different this year, but the organization is still the same.

Megan, we talked about this not too long ago, and you had to pivot and change, and tell us how things are going.

>> we are so hopeful that we're going to be able to put on this event.

But unfortunately due to covid-19 and the unforeseen future, we just felt the need to make it virt w so we're very excted and we have so much gratitude to the runners who are signing up and all of our sponsors.

We are glad to have mac lavigne, and you'll have a full week to complete this run.

So as long as you run the 5k, you upload the result.

And depending on if you place in your age group, we're going to be giving out our trophies, and we still want to keep it the same race as it always is.

>> let's tell everybody why we're running.

>> so the arc has been there for 25 years, and we hope to provide relief to families struggling with alzheimer's and dementia.

With education and outreach, and the program to give the families a break throughout the day.

Unfortunately, that program has been code.

But we hope when the numbers are going down, we'll be able to start that program again.

The online support groups, our goal it sob there for families on this johnnie and we are here for them.

We're just a phonecall or email away.

>> i was going to ask you because obviously when you're talking about respite care, you are bringing a loved one to a place, a loved one with alzheimer's or dementia, you can run an errand.

But nursing homes have been one of the most vulnerable places, and it's still a similar type of a gathering place, right?

So have you been able to help families in a virtual way?

>> yes, so that's one thing.

As soon as this start, we have been able to be creative, and zoom activities, we'll meet with a family for a session, with music therapy, and online sessions and as well as the virtual support groups that i mentioned and educational classes, but we're trying to be there as quickly as possible, with the care receiver and caregiver, or just resources for the caregiver during this time.

>> that's great.

And final details, this is the 21st annual mac lavigne race for the arc.

>> you'll have until august 29th to complete it.

And online registration will close this thursday, august 20th, at 6:00 p.m.

And unfortunately, we're not doing any on sight registration.

We'll be at the arc, it will be drive through style.

And we're limiting the contact as much as possible, but pickup will be to it 7:00.

>> and we'll put up the costs as well.

And i want to thank you for sharing this information.

Everybody put on your shoes and go running for an excellent, excellent cause.

Our thanks to megan for the arc of
