Hope for the Hungry in Owensboro

Churches and community organizations are coming together to try and help others through the pandemic.

Tri-state tonight at 9:30 --- the pandemic pushing many-- to the brink of poverty.

Thousands--left out of work-- and with few options to put food on the table.

But local organizations-- are swooping in to fill*more than the fridge.

Chief western kentucky bureau reporter erran huber-- shares how churches and organizations-- are coming together -- to help those in owensboro-- make it through another day.

"jesus said, "i was hungry, and you gave me food."

And at the end of the day, that's what we want to be able to do.

In the midst of all that's going on right now, to be able to meet the needs of people.

One person at a time, one box at a time, one car at a time, one walk-up at a time.

One smile at a time.

A time of need in owensboro-- becomes a time of giving for owensboro coalition of concerned churches.

Together with feeding america-- they're making sure those in western kentucky--have enough to survive-- when things have been so tough for so many during this pandemic.

"each one of the boxes, and people will receive three boxes today, it is the equivalent of a week's worth of food.

So it should be amazing, so that in this moment of covid that we're living in that the church can come together, that some concerned churches here in owensboro, can come together to demonstrate our christianity in full swing, not just on sunday and wednesday."

But those working and volunteering here--are trying to help those in line--not only be ready for the next few weeks-- but for their future.

Owensboro community and technical college--using cares funding-- to help bring those out of work back into gainful employment --by helping them develop new skills.

Healthcare, welding, manufacturing.

Things that aren't seeing a decrease right now.

We're trying to really help upscale individuals, to change their lives, and make things better for them and their families.

Because of the need not only here across owensboro--but in western kentucky amidst the pandemic.

The folks here not only at mount calvary baptist church-- but with owensboro coalition of concerned churches-- are looking to host another drive in september.
