The kentucky high school football season will be under way.

And though navigating through a pandemic and adjusting to new health and safety protocols has been a challenge..

The start of the 2020 kentucky high school football season was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic, and teams like owensboro catholic and daviess county are still adjusting to new safety guidelines.

It was a long process.

It was 6,7 weeks before we got to really get into stuff but i hated wearing those masks but you had to do it.

We had to do it to be able to get to where we are right now, so we would have jumped through any obstacle to be able to get out here and play games this fall.

It was definitely different wearing a mask all the time and you can't hang out with your buddies and be beside them all practice so coach is preaching that about everything.

When the original start date was pushed back, some players and coaches were concerned that could lead to an outright cancellation of the season, for others, it just meant more time to prepare.

I was honestly worried because none of the schools were opening back up.

Then we got the news we were going to open back up first.

But i was watching the live stream when they said we could play, and then after that happened we knew we were ready to go.

Our mentality is control what we can, show up everyday and work like there's no tomorrow.

Work like we're getting ready for a season.

Our seniors and our leaders of our team have pushed each other regardless of what the situations have been.

Despite trying to navigate through the challenges of playing football during a pandemic, both squads are thrilled they finally get to play a game and tackle someone other than their own teammates.

It's great, i can't wait.

We've been looking forward to it all year and we didn't really know if we were going to get it so it's great knowing that for sure, friday night, we're going to be on the field.

I'm excited for the kids because they deserve it.

They've done everything they need to do, everything that we've asked them to do.

We've pushed them as hard as we can throughout this entire period and they've just been really resilient, faced a lot of adversity and they deserve the chance to play.

It's awesome, me and my family, we're through the roof right now, just finally getting through all of those meetings with the khsaa and just all that nervousness, we're at the end of it, so we get to play football so we're all super happy to be here.
