Gradual Return To The Classroom

Casey Albritton reports from the central office of the Lauderdale County school district after learning why they made the decision to bring students back to in-person classes, and how gradual the return will be.

The assistant superintendent, tim tubbs, told me the district has had 16 students and twelve employees test positive since the first day of school.

Now - the board said it believes it's best for students to have an in-person education.

The district will gradually bring back all students, starting with students coming back four days a week: monday, tuesday, thursday and friday.

The new schedule looks like this: pre-k through 6th grade will start the four day schedule on september 21st.

7th and 8th grade students will start it on september 28th.

And high school will start october 5th... then all students will be brought back for in-person school five days a week on october 19th.

The district says it encourages parents to go over safety precautions before students come back full-time.

"be patient and make sure your child understands what cdc guidelines are and adhere to them the best they possibly can and we will get through this."

Right now - traditional students are in class 2 days a week and remote the other 3.

These new schedule changes do not apply to virtual students.

The district says it will continue to monitor the number of cases in the area and this schedule can be changed at any time.
