Terrifying moment fallen power cable hits motorcycle rider and passenger

A power cable snapped after a storm and struck a motorcycle rider and his passenger - engulfing them in flames.

Teacher Piyaphan Phadawan, 25, was riding home with his student Sritawat Sisan, 15, in Pathum Thani, central Thailand when they stopped briefly at the roadside.

However, they touched an overhead high-voltage electric cable which had fallen down on September 21 after a storm.

Dashcam footage shows how they rode into the hanging cable, causing an explosion of sparks and flames.

The student jumped away from the bike as flames touched his leg while his teacher was knocked out by the electric shown and left unconscious on the verge.

Both are now recovering in the hospital after suffering burns in the accident.

Speaking at the hospital, the student, Sritawat, said: "We are lucky that we were not electrocuted to death.

It was terrifying." Passing driver Wasutha Ngamsuwan, 36, stopped his car and took out a fire extinguisher to douse the flames on the bike.

The paramedics were called to the scene and gave assistance to the injured pair before they were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The student suffered burns on his legs while the teacher sustained more serious burns across his body.

Police said the electric post is believed to have been damaged during the rainstorm that battered the province last week.

Police are now investigating the cause of the accident.
