Healthcare workers protest flu shot mandate in Tehama County

Dozens of health care workers are calling for the right to choose whether they get a flu shot.

4 tier system.

Colusa county reported 2 new cases today for a total of 529.

Tehama county reported 12 new cases-- it now has 544 total.### yesterday it was shasta county, tonight a group of people is protesting the flu shot mandate in tehama county.

Action news now reporter ana torrea is live in red bluff at the protest right now, ana what does it look like out there?

People have been out here since about 4:30 this afternoon.

This protest taking place at the corners of antelope boulevard and main street.

((ad lib scene)) i took a look at that health order put out by tehama county public health: and it states: that*ever* health care facility: like hospitals... clinics... and nursing homes just to name a few-- are required to have their healthcare workers take the flu vaccine.

But health care workers at the protest tells me: they want the right to choose.

It was disturbing i feel like we need to have the right to choose and what to put in our body and it's been we've had the option to sign a declaration or to get the flu shot and taking that right from us just doesn't seem right i've reached out to tehama county public health multiple times today--and even since yesterday-- for further comment on this health order.

I even went to the public health building.

Where i was told: that their public information officer was not available to speak to me and when i asked them if they knew about today's planned protest: they declined to comment.

Anna (ah-nah) eicholtz-- who organized this says: the protest is not being about anti-vaccine or being anti-public health.

Eicholtz says: it's about giving healthcare workers a choice to get the flu shot or wear a mask during flu season.

Reporting live in red bluff, ana torrea, action news now coverage you can count on.

On thursday: shasta county public health decided to rescind its flu shot mandate for its health care workers.###
