WTVA reporter Erin Wilson spoke with the owner of Buxton's in Aberdeen who reported a successful summer for sales.

Or postponed weddings because of the coronavirus and restrictions set by state and local governments on crowds.

But you may be surprised to hear one local jeweler told us engagement ring sales actually increased throughout the pandemic.

You would think with the pandemic causing money struggles for some many businesses it would be the same for jewelers.

But no, i talked to one local jewelry store owner who says she is coming out of the pandemic better than she came in.

During the pandemic, aberdeen, monroe county ) "well in the beginning i was really afraid that it was going to shut us down."

And it did, but only for two weeks.

Once the economy opened back up... the buxton's jewelry store owner says to her surprise business boomed.

"gold's picked up, diamond rings picked up, sterling silver's picked up."

She says the summer is usually when sales drop, however with coronavirus limiting travel... she says more people are spending lump sums on bling.

"people weren't vacationing so they were spending money on gold."

The catch, she says the price of gold is gradually increasing.

"it's reached it's second all-time high in my jewelry business lifetime."

However, she says gold is her top seller right now even with the high cost, she says it's selling faster than she can restock "i believe we've sold more this summer than we did last christmas, in the gold."

The store owner here at buxtons says although the sales are surprising she hopes they continue to increase.
