West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School to provide free menstrual products in all girls’ bathrooms

Previously girls who needed menstrual products during the school day either had to pay for them in the girl’s restroom or had to go to the nurse’s office to receive the product they needed free of charge.

Free menstrual products to all girls bathrooms. i talked with two students who played a part in making this change possible.

"menstrual products shouldn't be taboo they should just be avaliable to students that need them."- molly edwards molly edwards is one of the students who helped convince the adminstration at west lafayette junior senior high school to add free menstrual products to the girls bathrooms. "girls get their periods at unexpected times it's very important that we have this resource in the restrooms."-molly previously girls who needed menstrual products during the school day either had to pay for them in the girls restroom or had to go to the nurses office to recieve the product they needed for free.

" i think what happened was they just sort of needed a student push to really start to get things going."-eshaal hussain (ee-shall) hussain posted this testimony to her instagram and encouraged other students to send an email with a similar message.

"that sort of started spreading around on instagram and a lot of students and parents started emaling rocky killion.

Two days later i was called to the office and i was told they were going to work on making menstrual products free."-eshaal students involved in making this change possible hope other schools will follow in west lafayettes footsteps.

"i really hope that this is something that goes to other high schools.

I hope it goes past jsut the girls bathroom i hope we get it in the gender nuetrel bathroom."-molly edwards "west side has always been seen as a model school for high schools in our area.

I hope with west side taking this step forward other schools like harrison will start to take those steps too."- eshaal superintendent of the west lafayette community school corporation rocky killion says..

The adminstration at the high school have been working on adding free tampons to the girls bathrooms since spring.
