Hyderabad rains: IMD issues orange alert

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert in Hyderabad, as the city continue to witness heavy rainfall.

"Yesterday night, Hyderabad city had received heavy rainfall from thunderstorm, we are monitoring Hyderabad in high priority.

Monsoon is very active here, we have new system forming over east central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours, it will move west or north-west.

Costal Andhra Pradesh, South Odisha and Telangana are under over monitoring 24*7, we have given orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall," said Senior Scientist, Rajendra Kumar Jenamani.

Several people have lost lives in Hyderabad as heavy downpour triggered flood-like situation in Hyderabad.

Cyclone Nivar is gradually intensifying, could cause damage to crops: IMD DGM

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Nivar is likely to cross between Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) and Karaikal during midnight on November 25 and early hours of November 26. Speaking to ANI, Director General of Meteorology (DGM) of India Meteorological Department, Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, "Cyclone Nivar is gradually intensifying. It could cause structural damage, uprooting of trees, damage to thatched/tin houses, and damage to banana and paddy crops." "There will be strong winds and heavy rain. The most impact will be in Puducherry and Karaikal," he added.
