A new asphalt spray is helping the City of Lafayette save tens of thousands of dollars annually.

Dollars in road repair costs.

Known as (rec-luh- mite) reclamite, the technology will increase the lifespan of roadways across town.

Sam, jeff -- south street is one of several roadways scheduled to be treated over the next few weeks.

It's a pink liquid that absorbs into the pavement within a few minutes of application.

According to city engineer jeromy grenard, this is the first time the city is using the spray.

It will serve as an alternative to repaving roadways.

The process will cut costs to about one- fifth of current resurfacing expenses.

Grenard says this method will help save the city money on roadwork thanks to the reduction of costs.

"a typical resurface lasts about 7 to 10 years.

This will give us another 3 to 5 years on top of that and you can come back and reapply."

Grenard says crews will also be treating newer pavement.

This will help keep newer roads in a better condition for longer.

Treament will take place across lafayette over the next week.

An entire breakdown of roads receiving treatment as well as detour routes will be available on our website, wlfi dot com.
