Waay 31 just learned colbert county high school has at least 8 teachers either diagnosed with coronavirus or in quarantine due to close contact with someone who tested positive.

This is forcing students there to have to transition to virtual learning until november 3rd.

Waay31's breken terry is live outside of the colbert county board of education where she just spoke with the superintendent, breken?

Superintendent gale satchel said they didn't necessarily go all virtual due to the threat of the virus but because there aren't enough substiute teachers available to cover for the 8 who are out.

Satchel said they've been preparing for this moment and on tuesday students were sent home with chromebooks to work virtually for the next two weeks.

She said the teachers didn't get coronavirus at school but rather weekend family funcitons.

Satchel said they are preparing for a worst case scenario in the coming months.

We knew at some point we would get here.

Now our next point is when will the entire school district go if our numbers continue to rise?

Satchel said teachers who aren't sick will still come to colbert county high school and teach virtually from their classrooms. they will be doing a deep cleaning at the school.

No sports activities have been cancelled.
