England World Cup winner Nobby Stiles dies aged 78

Nobby Stiles, part of the England team which won the World Cup in 1966, hasdied aged 78 after a long illness.

Stiles was also part of the ManchesterUnited side which became the first English club to win the European Cup twoyears later, when they beat Benfica in the final at Wembley.

The newspaper said Lady Norma hadgiven the breaking of the news her “blessing”, with the announcement comingtwo days after his club and country team-mate Nobby Stiles died after his ownbattle with the illness. In July, Sir Bobby’s brother Jack also died, himselfhaving previously been diagnosed with dementia. Sir Bobby is regarded as oneof England’s best ever, if not the best, footballers.
