Oregon's economy is likely to recover faster than initially expected from the pandemic... that's according to a recent report by the oregon office of economic analysis.

Now house speaker tina kotek is asking for a third special session this year.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live in eugene and explain why a special session could be called next month.

Matt-- the governor's deputy communication director tells me governor brown is more than willing to call for another special session-- if lawmakers have a detailed agenda to help oregonians.

House speaker tina kotek says--that report on oregon's economy--is good news and gives the state the an opportunity to help more people.

The oregon office of economic analysis says the state's economy will recover 4 years faster than after the great recession.

The house speaker wants her fellow legislators to address issues like the housing crisis and the impact of the pandemic on small businesses.

Senator james manning says the encouraging report on the state's wallet will give lawmakers an opportunity to help in places the federal government has failed to do so.

We have to make sure there's an inclusion of cash that states, particular in oregon, have stimulus money we can get out people who have been underemployed or not employed at all.

We have to make sure we are providing for food and shelter and for people that are unhoused.

The house speaker's office tells me there is no set agenda for a special session yet.

That will come if and when the governor calls for it.

Matt-- these encouraging numbers about the state's economy are based on the assumption by this time next year-- there'll be a medical treatment for covid-19.

With two possible vaccines announced this month and the push to get emergency authorization from the f-d-a-- that could soon become a reality.
