Neighborhood pantry destroyed by vandals

A small neighborhood pantry started four years ago meant to help those battling food insecurity was vandalized early Friday morning, according to the pantry's social media page

It was a simple way to help people facing hard times, but now it's gone thanks to vandals, good saturday evening thanks for joining us i'm ron johnson.

We're talking about a neighborhood pantry started by people who wanted to make a difference in the community, now donors are speaking out in hopes their good work doesn't get overshadowed by crime.

<<ron johnson reporting it may have been a little pantry, but it left a big impact in one st.

Joseph neighborhood.

This pop up pantry which sits just outside a home in the neighborhood of 24th and edmond provided a place for people to drop off and collect canned goods.friends of the woman who ran it say it been around for about four years, and was successful donors would set things on her front porch which is how i got to know hershe'd have stacks and boxes and donations coming in, she'd have it spread out all over her living room and the kids would help her sort.

They say with so much food insecurity in st.

Joe it was nice to see a quick and simple way for people to help those less fortunate.

But sadly, this week it all came to a stop, when friends say the woman who started the pantry came out friday morning to find it completely destroyed.

It was upsetting, that's for sure.

There's so many people that don't know how to have empathy and think about the consequences.

Those friends admit this isn't the first time the pantry's been targeted.

There's been this and that taken, there's been somebody spray painted the front little window of the pantry door, various things have happened over the years.

They say the destruction of it couldn't have come at a worse timenow of course with the pandemic, people need extra help more than ever.but despite all of this, those friends say there is a silver lining, her pantry inspired other pantries around town, and i know there were at least two more that popped up.

Those friends now hoping that those other pantries can continue the good this one started here.

People care, they most certainly care and want to help the woman who started the pantry announced through facebook that she would not be continuing it.

She wants people to utilize the other pop up neighborhood pantries.
