Our top story tonight at 6: as you just heard... a young woman is dead after a shooting outside a downtown club early this morning.... just hours after thanksgiving.

41nbc's peyton lewis has been on the story all morning.

And she has the latest developments.

"innocent bystanders getting killed.

You know you never leave the house thinking this is my last night."

A night to celebrate thanksgiving, turned deadly early friday morning at the thirsty turtle night club in downtown macon.

Bibb county deputies received a call just before 3 o'clock about shots fired outside of the club.

That's where they found six people shot and two others stabbed.

One of the victims -- 22-year-old jhacaya mann -- died at the hospital.

Family friend, ar'erel freeman, says the shooting was a senseless act.

"i'm not surprised but i'm shocked at the person that was killed.

I'll say that.

It seems to be becoming the norm in certain areas around here, it's very unfortunate.

You know, you would want to be able to be young and go out and have a good time with your friends and not expect anything like that to happen."

Deputies say someone drove down cherry street firing shots at people standing outside of the club.

The sheriff's office believes a fight in the club may have sparked the violence.

The shooting has not only effected families of the victims, but also small businesses downtown.

Nearby shops are now worried about safety and foot traffic ahead of small business saturday.

"i pray the find out who did it, and i pray for that girl's family, and i pray for the small businesses like myself."

Tiara groce, owner of x-art across the street from the thirsty turtle, believes this situation could make people hesitant about going downtown.

"i hope it doesn't effect us, it shouldn't but it might."

Sheriff david davis says he's saddened by this situation, but assures downtown macon is a safe place.

"by and large downtown is safe, if you're not out a 3 o'clock in the morning and you haven't created a beef with somebody to get yourself shot at."

One of the gunshot victims is still in critical condition, the other 4 are stable.

The two men stabbed are also in stable c1 3 b13 condition.
