The Evansville City Council approved another $750,000 in emergency financial assistance during Monday's meeting.

New this morning -- relief will be coming soon for many evansville residents facing eviction -- with the evansville city council approving almost one million in emergency covid-19 relief funds last night 44news reporter marisa patwa is live in evansville with more.

Good morning tommy and lauren.

The evansville city council approved seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars in federal covid-19 funds last night.

And it's going to help out over eight hundred house holds.

And the funds are essential for homeowners facing the cdc eviction moratorium -- expiring december thirty first.

The money the evansville city council approved is under a finance ordinance -- which is allocating that emergency assistance for those residents who need it most.

And while the evansville city council approved the funds, it will be cape and the salvation army that distributes the money.

And this funding comes at a time when evansville is set to have five hundred new units of affordable housing by the end of next year -- but unfortunately for hundreds of citizens -- the time is ticking fast and with the moratorium expiring, city leaders hope these emergency funds can help fill a gap for these citizens who don't know how they are going to pay their rent this month -- let alone the next.

The council also approved an extra seven thousand to be given to young and established for their need to feed program -- an organization that helps youth in need with after school programs and works to make sure low income communities do not go hungry.
