Empty.

The governor is giving hospitalization rates five days to stabilize and says if they don't, he will end or limit indoor dining at restaurants.

Locally, no capacity alarms yet, but those numbers are rising.

Newschannel 2's joleen ferris reports.

The governor and many local elected officials are worried about the rate at which covid-19 is spreading...and...the rate at which it's putting people in the hospital.

A graph of the mohawk valley region shows the alarming trend.

The far right is where we are now.

Yellow is covid patients in the icu; blue is covid patients hospitalized.

There are 23 covid patients hospitalized in the bassett network's five hospitals.

Officials there say the numbers fluctuate daily, but are steadily climbing....little falls hospital, in herkimer county, is in a unique situation; they won't have any long-term covid patients .

None .

None 1:59 "so we have a really interesting hospital situation here given the fact that we really rely on the contiguous counties for hospital capacity because we truly only havev little falls hospital.

They are a swing bed hospital so they are not intended to really have patients consistently, so most of our folks end up going to cooperstown or nathan litauer or mvhs out toward utica."

Stand up mvhs couldn't make anyone available yesterday or today to talk specific hospitalization numbers, but said in a statement earlier this week, that they made a surge plan that would allow them to increase capacity back at the beginning of the pandemic, and they haven't had to use it.

Herkimer county had their highest number of daily cases yet today- 54.

They attribute their rise to thanksgiving gatherings.

And say that should remind people that they can change the course of the virus.....for the better.....or worse...... 1:16 "i would say it doesn't take a lot to really see that people's behaviors really truly do have an impact, so, that's i think what we're looking that, that post- thanksgiving spike" now, they wait and hope behaviors will change for the next big holidays coming down the pike.
