People ages 80 (and older can now register to get covid-19 vaccinated statewide.

The clinic here in tippecanoe county will begin serving seniors starting on monday.

News 18's micah upshaw joins us in studio to break down the process.

Right now, more than half -- 52.2 percent of indiana's covid deaths are among individuals 80 and older according to state's health department.

This age group joins health care workers, long-term care residents and emergency responders now eligible for the shot.

The vaccination process for seniors starts with going to the our-shots-dot-i-n-dot- gov website.

Or calling the number 2-1-1 to make an appointment.

You can call as early as 8 a-m today.

From there, you choose a time slot and verify your demographics.

Later, you'll receive a confirmation message through email or phone.

The tippecanoe county health department is stressing that seniors must register through the state.

Do not call the county health department.

Upon arriving the clinic, you'll need a photo i.d.

To verify age and identity.

And mask and social distancing will be enforced.

The vaccine clinic is at 2577 maple point drive in lafayette.

It's located next to pay less super market.

Patients are asked to call the phone number on the door to check in.
