On-duty police sub-inspector shoots himself dead outside UP Assembly

An on-duty police sub-inspector allegedly shot himself dead near UP Assembly complex.

Police said that the incident took place at the parking lot located across the state Assembly.

Sub-inspector Nirmal Choubey, 53, shot himself using his service revolver around 3.30 pm.

In the suicide note left behind, Choubey - who was from Varanasi - said that he was ill.

“ Choubey was posted at Banthra police station in the city as a sub-inspector.

He was deployed on duty in the parking lot near Assembly gate number 7.

After the incident, he was taken to nearby Civil Hospital where he was declared dead.

In the suicide note left behind, sub-inspector Nirmal Choubey said he was ill,” Naveen Arora, Joint Commissioner (Law & Order), Lucknow said.

Police added that a case has been registered and the investigation is on.
