"* iowa governor kim reynolds signed into law some sweeping changes regarding elections in the state.

This isn't sitting well with democratic lawmakers ?

"* and is already facing a legal challenge.

Kimt news 3's alex jirgens is looking into what the new law means for voters.

"* come next election*- you may notice some major changes when it comes to voting in person ?

"* or droppig off your absentee ballot.

The law would shorten the early voting period from 29 to 20 days.

In addition ?

"* most mail in ballots must be received by election day ?

"* and voting sites would close earlier ?

"* among other changes.

Republicans ?

"* who largely backed the bill ?

"* say the moe is to protect against voter fraud ?

"* and protect election integrity.

However ?

"* democratic state representative sharon steckman has heard from both sides of the political spectrum ?

"* shes speaking out against the law ?*- saying it would make it harder for "i hear from folks that work in the polls, and they're very upset about this bill.

And not just democrats, it's republicans.

We had republican auditors come and speak at the public hearing that are definitely against the bill."

We also reached out to republican state representative shannon latham for comment.

So far we have yet to hear back from her.

The iowa association of auditors has released a statement ?

"* saying that the move would take away auditors' abilities to conduct fair elections ?

"* s well as the ability to establish satellite voting locations ?

"* and even reducing the amount of ballot drop off boxes in a county ?
