Kashmiri youths strive to preserve centuries-old folk theatre

To preserve and promote the centuries-old folk theatre, young budding players are being trained at Tagore hall in Srinagar.

They are taking part in plays but without spectators for now in order to gain confidence.

'Band Pather' which incorporates mythological legends and contemporary social satire and it is a popular folk art of Kashmir.

These plays portray social, cultural, religious practice in the Valley.

The players shared the importance of preserving all art forms of the Valley.

"Our folk play particularly 'Bhand Pather' is slowly fading.

Our director Shah Jahan Bhagat and the senior artist have been teaching us for nearly a month on dying folk play.

Some youths are not keen to involve", says an artist.
